Michael Cox

Michael Cox, instructor at Atlanta DanceMichael is a dance instructor and DJ at Atlanta Dance.  He started dancing in 1982 when every club in Houston, Texas, turned into a country western dance hall after the movie “Urban Cowboy”.

He attended dance conventions around the country for workshops, competitions and social dancing.  He won the two-step Jack and Jill contest in 1995 at the World UCWDC championships in Nashville, TN.

He took a job at a dance studio in Mobile, Alabama, teaching country western dancing.  He soon started learning ballroom dancing as well.  He also taught at studios in Dallas and Knoxville.

He moved to Atlanta in 1998 working with the Boys and Girls Club.  He started teaching at local dance studios.  He has been at Atlanta Dance since 2005.

Michael has been collecting and researching music for longer than he has been dancing.  He blended his love of music and dancing by becoming a professional DJ.

Michael enjoys teaching all dances but his favorites are waltz and two-step.  He tries to give each student bits of a private lesson in each group class.
